I love herbs, and grow a few that I use in the kitchen. They're in pots out on the
deck, right outside the kitchen door where they're easy to run out and get while I'm
in the middle of cooking. I have rosemary (needs transplanting...), a couple of flavors
of thyme, oregano, honey rose sage, and lavender. Oh, yeah, and sometimes the nasturtium
blossoms get eaten, too. I have catnip in a pot, the only safe place to grow it, but my
dear old kitty doesn't like it at all. She's 17 years old, and until last summer, I
thought she was a tee-totaller. Nope. Turns out she favors another member of the mint
family--wintergreen! Go figure. So mostly the neighbor's cats get the catnip. One of the
thyme plants loves to reseed itself into the pot below it that happens to have a spider
plant in it. Makes an interesting textural combination! The picture below is of my
lavender plant just as it's coming into its spring bloom. The bright green leaves to the
left are a goofy succulent that gets very tall with leaves only at the top. It's
marvelous!
Gardening requires lots of water --
most of it in the form of perspiration.
